Rev. Mr. Anthony FergusonFourth Theology
University of Richmond
Hi, my name is Anthony! As long as I can remember, I’ve loved art — so much so that I majored in Studio Art / Art History at the University of Richmond. Upon graduation in 2010, I landed a job as a graphic designer, which I did for about 3 years — designing websites, logos, and all sorts of fun things.
It was during this time that I underwent a deeper conversion to my Catholic faith and became more intrigued by the idea of working full-time ministry. To my surprise and horror, the priesthood became a real possibility, and my prayer-life moved more and more in that direction despite my best efforts to ignore the Holy Spirit’s prompting. Providentially, my discernment to apply for seminary reached its climactic moment around the same that time I was working with Fr. Mike Boehling in designing the new vocations website at my day-job!
Joining seminary has been such a source of joy and self-knowledge. It has not always been easy, but it has been continuously fruitful, which is why I’m still moving forward in formation. God is so good. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to discern the Lord’s call for my life AND also get to serve him through my gift of art and graphic design. I firmly believe that Christ takes our unique gifts and personal interests and gives them new direction and power within the context of the Church’s mission!
My hobbies include obsessing over the Lord of the Rings, buying way too many theology books off Amazon, cheering on the Steelers and Penguins, pondering theological quandaries with friends, blogging about aforementioned pondering, and running off to chapels late at night to pray. I’m a sinner like everyone else, but I’m striving to love God and my neighbor as He has loved us (which is really hard, by the way). Suffice to say, without Christ’s grace and unconditional love, you wouldn’t be reading this bio right now. So please pray for us seminarians – that we’d be able to respond in love to the Lord’s call.
