I was born near Louisville, Kentucky, and grew up in the countryside near Farmville, Virginia. I’m not a cradle Catholic by any means; in fact, my family and I were committed Southern Baptists until, by the grace of God, we converted to the Catholic Church early in my middle school years. I was entirely homeschooled until attending Southside Virginia Community College and the College of William and Mary, where I studied Classical culture and literature. The William and Mary Catholic Campus Ministry community also helped me discern the choice to enter seminary!
My interests have always been wide and varied: I have practiced Okinawan karate for seven years and earned a black belt in Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan karate, acted in a homeschool theater troupe for eight years, earned Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America, performed in a classical choir and a Baroque guitar orchestra, and enjoyed dabbling in parkour, mountain climbing, swimming, unicycling, and rock climbing. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for a good book and a cup of coffee.
